DC Designs, the Indian automotive designing firm, would finally launch the Avanti sportscar on April 15, 2015 in the country. The 'Desi' sportscar Avanti was first showcased as concept at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, and two years later in 2014 at the Auto Expo, DC Designs unveiled the production version of Avanti. It is being known that even prior to the official launch, the first batch of 500 units has been sold out at an introductory price of Rs. 34.93 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
DC Avanti measures 4550mm, 1965mm, and 1200mm in length, width and height, respectively. In addition, it has a wheelbase of 2700mm and ground clearance of 170mm. The sportscar rides on 20-inch alloys with 255/35 tyres at the front and 295/30 tyres at the rear. The body of Dc Designs Avanti has been constructed of carbon composite, alongwith having a spaceframe construction. The Avanti sportscar was spied as test mule several times with and without camouflage on the roads as the company was testing it extensively for over a year before officially launching it. Even the official brochure of the sportscar revealing its engine specifications and features was out around a couple of months back.
Talking about the powertrain options, DC Avanti comes loaded with a mid-engined 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, which, in all likelihood, is sourced from Renault. The engine dishes out a maximum power of 250bhp and peak torque of 360Nm. It is linked to a 6-speed manual transmission, which transfers the power to the rear wheels of the sportscar. The Avanti - being India's first sporscar - does a 0-100kmph in sub 8-second time. With a kerb weight of 1580 kgs, it boasts a double wishbone suspension setup at the front as well as rear.
