Transport department of the Delhi government has issued an order on banning retrofitting CNG conversion kits on 'in-use' cars. This action has been taken by the government due to complaints received on uncertified kits retrofitted by unauthorized dealers. And following this order, the authorised CNG conversion kit dealers in Delhi have stopped accepting orders for new CNG kits.
CNG conversion kits available in the after-market that not approved or certified by the designated authorities can be hazardous to use. CNG is can be hazardous to use in nature and such dubious quality kits can result in life of passengers and property in the surrounding. In order to stop these sales of these uncertified and untested kits, the Delhi transport department has instructed all Motor Licensing Officers (MLO) to stop registration of vehicles that are retrofitted with unapproved CNG kits.
The state government has also mentioned that the ban will continue until there is a complete inquiry into the matter, but the government has not given any specified timeframe for the ban. While the ban won’t affect cars that get factory fitted CNG kits directly from the manufacturer and can be registered easily.
