Detroit Electric has revealed world’s fastest production car in the Electric Vehicle segment in the Shanghai Motor show on 20th April. The car is called as the SP: 01. The car is electrically run sports car with a capacity to hold two passengers.
This pure electrically driven car gives a top speed of 249 kmph and accelerates to 100 kmph from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds. The speed of the car is not only due to the 201 bhp electric motor mounted in the mid portion of the car, but also to the car’s impressive power to weight ratio. The car is made up of light weight aluminum body and weighs only 1068 kgs. The chassis also use carbon fibre body works which are used in Formula 1 cars.
The car has a stylish bold look with distinctive body lines. They not only give a new style but also give the advantage of aerodynamics to the car. The car can be charged using a special home charging kit that comes with the car. It takes 4 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge the battery. A single charge is claimed to make the car move up to 190 miles. The energy storage capacity of the car is said to be 37 kWh and the car uses a Lithium battery. The car also features a regenerative braking system which recharges the battery through the kinetic energy produced when the brake is pressed.
The suspension steering and the brakes of the car are performance tuned and make the handling easy. The speed of the car can be changed between four gear ratios. The power train uses electromagnetic field around the rotor shaft to make the shaft rotate at different speeds. But the motor does not require a gear shift often to keep the car in smooth progress.
