Despite the slight tax relief sanctioned by the government on automobiles recently, the Indian auto industry continues to be on a downward slope. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) have reported that that overall domestic car sales have dived by up to 10.15 per cent with total car sales of 1,35,433 units in the month of April 2014. The total cars sales in the same month a year ago stood at 1,50,737 units.
Sales of commercial vehicles have declined by up to 24 per cent to 43,080 units in the month of April, while the vehicle sales across categories registered an increase of 6.96 per cent to 15,69,670 units from 14,67,472 units in the April 2013.
In terms of motorcycles however, the sales grew by 8.06 per cnet to 9,11,908 units from 8,43,909 units in the year ago period. Total two wheeler sales in the month of April grew by 11.67 per cent to 13,04,447 units as against 11,68,100 units in the same month last year.
