The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has reported that the domestic car sales in the country have grown by 3.08 per cent to 1,48,577 units in the month of May 2013. The industry had recorded total sales of 1,44,132 units in the May 2013. The development could quite easily be seen as the beginning of the revival phase in the Indian auto industry that has been in a downward spiral over the last two years.
Total sale of vehicles across categories registered a growth of 13.33 per cent to 16,98,138 units in May 2014 as against 14,99,893 units in the corresponding period a year ago, which also points to the recovery of the overall auto industry.
The two-wheeler segment too, showed a positive graph during the month with a 16.3 per cent increase in sales to 14,02,830 units from 12,06,173 units in the year ago period.
In the commercial vehicles segment however, a drop of 15.28 per cent was registered in sales at 46,986 units, when compared to 55,458 units sold in May 2013.
