We reported some time ago that DSK Motowheels is investing 400 Crores in setting up a manufacturing plant at Pune. This plant is to help manufacture the range of Hyosung, Benelli and also the Keeway brand in India. This would give DSK Motowheels a huge leap ahead of its competition which is imports its offerings either through CBU or CKD route in the country.
Overdrive has reported that DSK Motowheels will be manufacturing soon the entire range of Hyosung motorcycles at their facility in Wai, near Pune. These bikes will be then be sold locally, as well as exported to international markets. At the moment, they manage to assemble around 70 to 80 Hyosung bikes a month, after importing them in a knocked down format. With this deal, Hyosung could be looking at making India as their global manufacturing base.
With Hyosung going forward and bringing its R&D centre to India also, great times are here for the Indian consumer as the prices will go down and would definitely make other manufacturers to follow suit and manufacture there premium offerings in the country. Manufacturing and developing the bikes and their updates in the country would mean that products like the Hyosung GT 250 R, which is a little overpriced at the moment, might see a price reduction by as much as Rs 1 lakh, owing to localized manufacturing.
While there is no official confirmation from DSK about this development, their partnership with Benelli intact, this rumoured manufacturing plan with Hyosung will see the emergence of a new manufacturer in the Indian motorcycle market. Also, the upcoming single cyclinder duo of the GD250N and the GD250R will benefit the most as DSK-Hyosung will be able to price these beautiful machines equal to the pricing of the established rivals like the KTM RC Series and the soon to be launched Pulsar 200SS.
