Ford India, making safety the foremost priority, has now made dual front airbags a standard fitment across the entire variant line-up of EcoSport in the country. Hence, even the entry-level grade Ambiente would feature dual airbags as standard safety equipment from now on. And with this, the American automaker has made driver airbag as mandatory safety feature across its entire product portfolio in India. Just so you know, untill now, airbags were standard feature on Trend trim and above in the EcoSport sub-compact SUV.
Besides the base variant Ambiente, all the other trims of Ecosport continue to offer Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) as standard features. Moreover, the Titanium and Titanium Plus grades now come with side and curtain airbags as additional safety features. The automatic variants retain the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Traction Control features. The company, in what seems to be an attempt to cover the lost ground to Maruti Vitara Brezza, has been trying to lure buyers by enhancing safety equipments in the EcoSport, which is its most successful vehicle in the Indian market. The Vitara Brezza's each and every variants comes with driver's side airbag as standard feature, while co-passenger airbag and ABS are optional right from the entry-level trim. The overwhelming response to Maruti's first-ever sub 4-meter SUV propelled Ford to slash the prices of the EcoSport by Rs. 1 Lakh.
No mechanical changes or updates have been made to the EcoSport range. It would continued to be offered with three engine options: 1.5L 4-cylinder Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5L 4-cylinder TDCi diesel engine and a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine. The entire range is offered with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while the 1.5L petrol engine can be availed with an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox. Ford Motor Company is all set to held the world premiere of EcoSport facelift next week at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show. It would be hitting the Indian markets in the first half of 2017, with local production taking place at the company's Chennai production facility.
