The Japanese auto major Honda that had unveiled the 'Urban SUV Concept' at the North American International Auto Show, Detroit, earlier this year has now confirmed its plans of showcasing it at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. This is the same vehicle spotted in Germany during its test runs, and is based on the next-generation Jazz platform. This compact SUV is expected to come to our shores as well, considering the kind of response Compact SUVs received here. In India, it will compete against the likes of Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki's upcoming XA Alpha and Hyundai's compact crossover.
In India, the Compact SUV will share most of its parts and components with the new generation Jazz and City. While Jazz and City are expected to be launched next year, the Compact SUV might come later. As per the information we have, Honda is planning to display Honda Mobilio MPV, next generation Jazz and City at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo, if things go well, Honda might also display the compact SUV at the event.
Honda Compact SUV has dynamic and sporty design unique to a SUV, while also offering a capacious cabin. The exterior design of the vehicle has been developed featuring the prominent and sporty character lines of a coupe, while keeping a crossover's dynamism. The company is planning to introduce the compact SUV in Japan by the end of this year.
Since it's a global product, the vehicle will be offered with three types of engines- gasoline, hybrid and diesel, so to be able to be introduced the vehicle as per regional needs. Like in India, the compact SUV will have petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol engine to be offered with the car in India could be the 1.5-litre i-VTEC, the diesel might be the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC powering Honda Amaze.
