EICMA 2015 - Benelli Unveils Leoncino - 500cc Italian Scrambler!!

Snapshot: this is a properly Italian drool worhty of a scrambler design...we like it and the specs make us fall in love with it....

It's raining Scrambler thick and fast, here, there everywhere! So if you are a company that has heritage to go with its name and are currently trying to find a space to stand back up again in the market, what would you do? but of course, the best way will be to have a Scrambler model of your own and try to entice a younger group of riders that will adore your legacy but will be more or less unaffected by the sins of your recent past (read, low sales and slow development cycles).

Just as we have been continuously updating you with news regarding Benelli at EICMA 2015 and the teasers Benelli had been releasing, finally the Leoncino has been unveiled and before we start to say anything, it is just stunning to behold.  With dimensions more or less similar to that of the Ducati Scrambler, the Leoncino by Benelli differentiates itself from the Scrambler with its  499.6cc parallel twin cylinder engine which is capable of making 47bhp of power and a tasty 45Nm of torque with its traditional chain drive and 6 speed gearbox, also as is the norm now, the bike is Euro 4 emission norm compliant. With such power figures, Benelli has made sure that the Leoncino will be eligible to access for the A2 licence holder riders pockets in Europe.

Another tasty bit on the Leoncino is the presence of the wire spoked wheels which are 19″ in the front and 17″ in the rear, and they should make the Leoncino pretty adapt at light off-road fun whenever asked. The braking is handled by a radially mounted four-piston brake calliper up front is mated to wave-pattern 320mm brake discs and then there is a 240mm brake disc handling things at the rear. While the suspension is USD 50mm upfront and a monoshock with preload adjustment at the rear, while ABS being standard is a welcome addition on the Leoncino.

The headlight assembly as it has become European trend, is a LED unit which is basic, and beautiful at the same time, we particularly liked the DRL design on it. Much like Benelli's more famous neighbour, Ducati, the iconic Pesaro Badge finds its place on the front fender. A flat handlebar alongwith a flat seat should mean a comfortable ride while the neat looking single exhaust with twin outlets is expected to be as aurally intoxicating as the ones found on the TNT300 and its bigger siblings. Benelli is saying that the Leoncino will go into production by second half of 2016 and will go on sale around the same time only, however, there are no plans of bringing the bike into Indian market as of now, but expect to see the Leoncino at the 2016 AutoExpo and its launch by 2016 end in India as well.

The Mr. Hooligan KTM 690 Duke has got some refinement therapy for 2016!!
