EICMA 2015 - Hyosung GD450 - 450cc, 50bhp of Sheer Lunacy!

Snapshot: Ladies and Gentleman - is this the epitome of sheer lunacy a motorcycle can be bestowed with?

Well, THIS we did not see coming! Hyosung has pulled off a huge surprise at the ongoing EICMA 2015 by unveiling a beast of a machine, the GD450. Hyosung has literally brought a shotgun in a fist fight where an accessible street hooligan is talked about. By far the most stunning piece of motorcycle design Hyosung has ever come up with, the GD450 not only takes aggressive single cylinder bike designs to a whole new level but alongwith it packs some seriously astonishing specs to add to its arsenal.

Wondering still why we are so psyched? Yes, because the Hyosung GD450 boats of specs like Single Cylinder liquid cooled DOHC 4-Valve fuel injected 450cc engine that  produces a whopping 50bhp of power @7500rpm and an equally staggering 48Nm of torque @7000rpm. And add to all these splendid figures where the GD450 just throws the ball out of the park is at the weight of the bike or rather a lack of it, the GD450 weighing a feather light 145kg dry for all this insanity it bears within. The bike wraps itself in a steel trellis frame adding to light weight and promising great handling.

If you compare the specs of the GD450 with the KTM Duke 390, then you would see that the GD450 is both way more powerful and torquey than the KTM while still being just 6kgs more than the already maniacal Duke 390. Thus, it would be safe to assume that if and when launched the GD450 will redefine performance plateaus in the segment. Prepare yourself for some mind blowing acceleration figures for a small streetfighter segment, the Duke 390 might just have found a nemesis from a part of the world never expected of.

The GD450 also utilizes a new 6 speed constant mesh gearbox as against the 5-speed tranny utilized by is older but smaller GD series siblings. For suspension duties the GD450 uses a thick 41mm USD assembly while the rear gets a gas charged monoshock with preload adjustability. To do braking duties on a bike that promises to be sheer lunatic, Hyosung has given responsibility to a 300mm single petal disc four piston calliper while the rear gets a 230mm single petal disc with a two piston calliper.

Expect the bike to arrive at the 2016 AutoExpo in final production form and to see its launch sometime in the later part of the second half of 2016 in the Indian market.  For sure the GD450 will be assembled by DSK Motowheels in India at their all new plant located at Pune and this should mean that the GD450 should see a very competitive pricing. We reckon, if DSK Hyosung manages to price this bike around 2-2.15 lakhs ex showroom here, they might just still all the thunder from the competition and set Hyosung on a path as a brand that it has always deserved in India and globally.
