The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has set up an e-mobility Centre of Excellence in Pune. With the Government of India pressing heavily on electrification of vehicles, this is a positive step to help the transition from conventional IC vehicles to electric ones.

Pune is set to see some futuristic transition in the electric field at the International Transportation Electrification Conference India (ITEC INDIA 2017). The overall cost for the setup of the centre of excellence was around Rs. 100 crore. Moreover, ARAI is also looking to create a platform for the startups in this electric mobility space. It will be the first attempt from ARAI to encourage startups, which is going to be a positive approach in the further development of the e-mobility CoE (Centre of Excellence).

The CoE for e-Mobility was framed under the FAME-India scheme. It will be providing technical support and advice for the further development in the electrification process. Moreover, it will also take a call on the validation and certification of the entire electric vehicles in India. Till now India has been the follower in the technology, but with the setup of CoE, we move a step ahead to become the creators in this regards.

Rapid changes have been noticed in the electric mobility space in recent times, which has created a gap in the e-vehicle ecosystem. Now, with the setup of e-Mobility centre, the gap is expected to be narrowed.

The 2017 ITEC India event is a three-day event. It is aimed at helping the automobile industry for the effortless transition from conventional vehicles to EVs. The General Manager of ARAI informed that the event will feature more than 500 delegates from 14 countries.

An event of exposition is currently being organised featuring 35 stalls, which will be displaying the EVs, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars and even buses. The major attraction of the event is that you have the opportunity to experience the ride or drive the EVs that are on display.
