In an unusual incident which perfectly goes with a Hindi proverb meaning an insider can do the maximum damage, two of Renault’s employees were found at fault for stealing two brand new Dusters from its Chennai facility. While it seems like a scene straight out of a crime show or a thriller movie, the two suspects planned the theft in such a way that they managed to drive away with brand new Dusters without facing any hurdle.

They managed to enter the premises of the facility with the help of forged gate passes and used number plates from two old cars which they swapped with the new Dusters. The culprits were responsible for testing any mechanical issues in the new vehicles before they were dispatched to the dealerships and hence had easy access to the new vehicles. They managed to take the cars out of the yard and parked them at the staff parking.

The duo almost implemented the plan successfully, however company officials came to know of the missing vehicles on January 22, 2018. The police arrested P Marimuthu alias Mohamed Asharaf and M Arun Kumar, while they were trying to sell the SUV. They have been working as technicians at the plant for over 7 years. While they managed to sell one SUV to a buyer for Rs 6, lakh, the police arrested them as they were looking to sell the second one. The police have recovered both the SUVs with fake registration numbers TN10AJ9283 and TNO1AV2244 from the suspects.

During the interrogation, both suspects admitted they did not face much problem while stealing the vehicles as they knew the security guards will only take note of the registration number and not its make. No matter how easily they managed to drive away with two brand new Dusters, both the suspects were caught and put behind the bars for stealing the vehicles from the Renault’s Chennai plant.
