Tata Motors held the world premiere of H5X SUV Concept at the 2018 Auto Expo in February in Greater Noida. Since then, the all-new SUV has been spotted testing several times on the Indian roads. One of our avid readers has spotted the SUV testing near the company's production facility in Ranjangaon, Pune. The captured images show the Tata H5X in near-production guise while wearing heavy camouflage, covering almost everything. The H5X is rumoured to launch in the first quarter of 2019 and would rival the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Though, the spy-shots don't reveal much of the SUV but looking at the alloy wheels, it is safe to state that it is a top-end or at least mid variant. Being based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport's architecture, it shares a few components with the luxury SUV. Although, the engineers at helm have cleverly replaced the costly aluminium elements with steel in order to keep the costs low. Pratap Bose, Design Director, Tata Motors has already made it clear that nearly 80-85 percent of the concept model would make it to the production. Being the first product to be flaunting Tata's IMPACT Design 2.0 philosophy, the H5X is believed to be offered in both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations.
Mechanically, Tata H5X SUV is expected to be launched only in diesel fuel trim, however the petrol and hybrid variants, if at all, might be introduced at a later stage. The diesel variants would be powered by the Fiat's 2.0L Multijet II engine which already comes with the Jeep Compass. If reports are to be believed, Tata Motors is working on a petrol engine which could further spawn a hybrid model as well. The SUV would be available with both manual and automatic transmissions, while a four-wheel-drive system could also be in place. The company would unveil the production-ready model of the H5X by the end of this year with deliveries starting in Q1 2019. Stay tuned to this page to get more updates on Tata H5X!
