We have learnt that Volvo is considering the V40 hatchback launch in the country. The Swedish manufacturer will most likely launch after the Volvo XC90, which is coined as the 'World's safest car'. The hatchback is most likely to be launched in a price range of Rs 23-25 Lakh and will be placed below the V40 Cross Country in the product portfolio.
The Volvo V40 hatchback and V40 Cross Country are underpinning the same basic structure, but with different exteriors. While the V40 Cross Country is more robust in design, with a crossover like design, the V40 is a proper hatchback. The overall design of the V40 is sleek, and sheds the body cladding and roof-rails from the cross country.
Volvo will most likely introduce the new Volvo V40 hatchback in the popular front wheel drive D3 variant. The D3 variant comes powered by a transversely mounted 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of generating 152ps of power and 360Nm of torque. The same engine in cross country delivers an ARAI certified mileage figure of 16.8 kmpl.
The Volvo V40 will compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz A-class and upcoming facelifted BMW 1-series hatchback. On the other hand, the XC90, which is dubbed as the safest SUV in the world will be launched around the same time as the V40 in the country and will be powered by a D5 turbocharged diesel unit and a possible T8 petrol hybrid.
