Hyundai Venue sub-compact SUV was launched today in a price range of Rs 6.50-11.10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. It has been introduced in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with a total of three engine options: a 1.2L Kappa petrol, 1.4L CDRi diesel and a 1.0L turbo GDi petrol. The new 998cc 3-cylinder petrol engine makes its debut in the Indian market along with the 7-speed dual-clutch auto transmission and a 6-speed manual gearbox, and the company claims that both return best-in-segment mileage of 18.15kmpl and 18.27kmpl, respectively.
Hyundai Venue's most fierce rival is Maruti Vitara Brezza but it is available only in diesel fuel trim with a best-in-segment fuel economy of 24.30kmpl. The Venue's 1.4L turbo U2 CRDi diesel engine with the 6-speed manual gearbox deliver mileage of 23.70kmpl, which is almost equivalent to the figures of Vitara Brezza. The other SUVs in the segment such as Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport have a fuel efficiency of 21.50kmpl, 20kmpl and 23kmpl, respectively. Coming to the petrol variants, the lower trim variants of the Venue with the 1.2L naturally aspirated Kappa engine and the 5-speed manual transmission come up with an official mileage of 17.52kmpl, which is a bit higher than Ford EcoSport's naturally aspirated 1.5L TiVCT petrol engine's mileage of 17kmpl.
Talking about the 1.0L T-GDi petrol engine which debuts with Hyundai Venue in India, it is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The manual variants deliver a best-in-class mileage of 18.27kmpl as compared to the fuel efficiency figures of Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 which stands at 18.1kmpl, 17kmpl and 17kmpl, respectively. Last but not the least, the 7-speed dual-clutch auto transmission, which is the current talk of the town, also returns best-in-segment mileage of 18.15kmpl which is quite higher than Tata Nexon's and Ford EcoSport's figures of 17kmpl and 14.80kmpl, respectively. In all, Hyundai Venue is impressive and at par with its foes as far as the mileage is concerned in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with manual and auto gearboxes.
