F1 Race Analysis - Rosberg makes it two for two at Bahrain

Snapshot: Nico Rosberg surged passed chequered flag and won his fifth race in a row at the incident filled Shakir race.

It was Lewis Hamilton, who gained the pole position last day at the qualifying session and was the favorite for winning the Bahrain GP. But the luck had a different narrative written for the second race of the 2016 F1 season as Hamilton's team mate at team Mercedes Nico Rosberg, won his back-to-back race of the season, and fifth race in a row including last 3 races of the 2015 season.

Lewis Hamilton finished at the third spot after suffering a contact with Williams’ Valtteri Bottas during the opening lap at the Turn 1. Brave enough to finish the race in a damaged car, Hamilton finished the race with a  podium place. Valtteri Bottas who caused Hamilton much pain due to an over-enthusiastic driving was given a drive-through penalty.

His team mate though, had a breezy affair winning the Bahrain who started from the second spot at the qualifying and finished 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Runner-up here means Kimi Raikkonen, who produced a better result than his team mate at Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel to finish second. The German couldn't start the race after a suspected engine failure on the formation lap.

While Raikkonen got close to Rosberg at times, he couldn't really keep up with the Rosberg's pace who finished 10.2s ahead in his Mercedes F1 car. The talk of the town, newcomer team Haas and its driver Roman Grosjean produced better results than the season opener in Australia and finished at fifth position, keeping them ahead of Vettel and equal to Raikkonen on 18 points in the championship.

Max Verstappen, the new kid in the town who proved his mettle in the last season showed that he is here to stay and finished a decent sixth in his Toro Rosso. Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat finished at the seventh spot ahead of the Willams duo Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas who finished eighth and ninth respectively. Bottas of course lost time for his drive-through penalty as mentioned above.

In the 10th place and the final one to chip of some points was the debutante Stoffel Vandoorne racing for team McLaren. Not to forget about Home grown Force India team who had a horrible race yielding only 16th and 17th places. The 2016 qualifying format still didn't get well with the boys, though the new choice of three tyre compounds has spiced things up and made the Bahrain GP and interesting one.

With this win, Rosberg now leads the world championship with 50 points compared to his team mate’s 33 points. At the third spot is Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo with 24 points with another fighting race.
