What's the maximum amount a classic and restored Ferrari has fetched ever? $7.6 million (Rs 47 crore) is the answer and the amount is fetched by a beautiful looking 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet. And who other than the famous RM Auctions and their new partners at Sotheby's, who are famous for auctioning classic Ferrari's setting at record prices every time.
The 400 Superamerica was no less than a Bugatti Veyron in its time - extremely rare, insanely fast and whopping expensive. Only 47 of of such beauties were ever built and if that was not enough, 7 among these were designed by the famous design house, Pininfarina. This was the last piece of them all and was owned by father-son duo Paul & Chris Andrews.
Ferrari used this particular model as the show car at both the Geneva and New York auto shows. The car bounced between a couple of owners overs the decade before finding its place in the Andrews duo collection. The 400 Superamerica superseded the amount fetched by a similar green over red Ferrari that fetched $6.38 million a couple of months back.
If you closely follow us, you must be aware that we did a feature on the top 10 most expensive cars ever sold in an auction. The numero-uno position was grabbed by a rare 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. Since the list was compiled 6 months ago, the $6.38 million Ferrari and $7.6 million Ferrari couldn't make their way to the list. But the new list will surely feature these two cars in the top 2 position!
