The Ferrari World Finals is a premium international racing series held for clients of the Modena based supercar manufacturer. Held annually, the event gathers enthusiasts from across the globe to witness some of the most eye-catching Prancing Horse ever build and Ferrari honors the participation of the clients by unveiling a new product.

This year's event was held in Daytona and saw the unveiling of another latest model to join the ranks of Ferrari’s prestigious international Challenge racing series for clients. But the model unveiled this time is no ordinary model and happens to be the most powerful Ferrari to ever compete in the Challenge racing series. The Challenge series will complete 25 years in 2017.

The model unveiled at the Daytona is the Ferrari 488 Challenge. The Ferrari 488 Challenge is the sixth model to participate in the one-make series and will be the first ever turbo-charged model to race, along with being the most powerful Challenge car ever. The 488 Challenge is powered by the 670 hp 3.9-litre V8 derived from the series production engine that was awarded the 2016 International Engine of the Year Award.

The newly unveiled 488 Challenge is the fastest and most powerful Ferrari ever made for the Challenge series. The Challenge edition managed to outperform the 458 Challenge EVO track record by almost a second. The previous record run set at the Fiorano circuit by 458 EVO and was cut short by 1 seconds to a new 1'15.5".

The extensive development of the car’s engine, aerodynamics and chassis helped the 488 Challenge reach new levels of performance. The 488 Challenge has a host of changes as compared to the production 488 GTB V8. The powertrain features a specific engine mapping, optimized for racing performance, and shorter gear ratios.

The variable torque management enables the driver to get the maximum use of the performance characteristics of the turbo engine. Also, the F1 DCT transmission featuring a new racing shift strategy enables the car to accelerate from a standstill to maximum revs in 4th gear in just six seconds. The vehicle gets Ferrari’s patented Slip Slip Control (SSC) that enhances the vehicle dynamics, improving the turn-in, cornering and acceleration out of corners ensuring maximum traction throughout.

A team of designers worked at the Ferrari Styling Centre to increase the 488 Challenge's aero efficiency. For this purpose, the front radiator layout was reworked and it improved the air flow over the radiators in racing conditions, whilst, at the same time, reducing drag. The front bumper was redesigned to increase downforce and balance the rear load. This resulted in a 7% improvement in efficiency compared to the 458 Challenge EVO.
