Lately we have been hearing a great deal about the more hardcore F12 Berlinetta which according to Maranello sources will revive the legendary GTO moniker, so expect some top specs and a matching body to make the model worthy of the nameplate. These two pics are believed to come from a private configurator that Ferrari shows only to customers, so you won’t find it anywhere online.
Despite the relatively low quality of these images, it’s easy to notice the F12 GTO will get a much more aggressive body with some strong influences from the iconic 250 GTO, but keep in mind that we haven’t received a confirmation yet regarding the authenticity of the images.
Apparently only 650 cars are being planned for production and Ferrari’s engineers have worked on the V12 6.3-liter normally aspirated engine, increasing its output from the current 740 bhp to a whopping 800 bhp. This major hike is expected to come from an implementation of the HY-KERS system derived from the LaFerrari.
Despite the added hardware, the F12 GTO will actually be lighter than the F12 Berlinetta as around 100 kg will be shaved off, possibly through more extensive use of carbon fiber. With more power wrapped around in a lighter package, expect the new version to be substantially quicker than its predecessor which needs 3.1 seconds for the 0-100 kmph sprint and 8.5 seconds for the 0-200 kmph run before topping out at more than 340 kmph.
An official public debut is expected to occur in the middle of September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but we won’t be too surprised if Ferrari will decide to reveal the car online earlier than that. Deliveries are programmed to begin in the second quarter of next year and chances are most of the cars have already been pre-sold to loyal customers of the prancing horse.
