If you just can’t get enough of Ferrari’s upcoming hardcore F12, here are several spy shots taken in Maranello, Italy near the company’s headquarters. These blue and red near-production prototypes still carry an extensive amount of camouflage, but we all know the new model - tentatively called F12 GTO or Speciale - will be officially unveiled later this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
From what we know so far, the higher specification F12 will use an evolution of the naturally aspirated V12 6.3-liter gasoline engine that is rumored to squeeze an additional 30 bhp which means it will be able to develop a massive 760 bhp. Thanks to additional oomph, the newest prancing horse will be able to cover the 0-100 kmph sprint in less than 3 seconds.
Aside from gaining more power, the supercar is expected to lose as much as 200 kg according to the latest gossip, but that seems to be an exaggeration as we estimate the weight loss won’t be that significant. We do know for sure it will use a more aggressive body that has been further aerodynamically optimized while the rear fenders will gain several slats to aid ventilation and cool down the engine.
Ferrari has also worked on new front and rear bumpers as well as a different rear diffuser while those two-tone alloy wheels are new and come matched with black brake calipers denoting this is more than just a standard F12 Berlinetta.
It will be interesting to see whether Ferrari will offer the Speciale / GTO as a limited-run special edition or they plan to sell it as a regular production model. Regardless of this, expect a price tag significantly higher than the regular F12 which in India begins at 3.50 Cr ex-showroom price and chances are it will reach our country sometime next year.
