Fiat India Auto limited (FIAL) has crossed the milestone of manufacturing 3,00,000 units at its Ranjangaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The Italian automaker entered the Indian market in a 50:50 joint venture with Tata Motors which was originally incorporated in 1997 but become functional around mid last decade. The Ranjangaon facility is spread over 200 acres of land area that has the capacity of manufacturing 1,60,000 passenger vehicles and 3,50,000 engines in a year.

The company assembles Grande Punto and Linea at the Ranjangaon plant while Tata Indigo Manza, Indica Vista and Indica eV2 also being manufactured at the same facility. Alongwith the 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol power plants, the company also manufacture its much-acclaimed 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine for auto majors like Maruti Suzuki, Chevrolet and Tata at the Ranjangaon site. Last year, Fiat also achieved the production of five lakh MultiJet engines in India.

As part of its three-pillar strategy, Fiat is working extensively on developing its sales and service network besides expanding its product range in India. The company targeting to appoint 150 dealers by 2014 from 107 dealers now and also has plans to launch four new models this year. Two of them are the Punto and Linea facelift (which has already been launched) while the other two are Avventura and its tiny beauty, the 500, that both will enter the Indian market later this year.
