Fiat India would launch the more powerful version of its Punto EVO hatch and Avventura pseudo-crossover around Diwali 2015. And, our friends at Team Fiat Moto Club have posted the first images of the Punto hatchback with a 135bhp T-Jet engine. It is also being reported that spied car has completed 83000 kilometers on the odometer, but still it would go through another two phases of testing. Both the high-performance Punto and Avventura would be sold under Abarth brand in India.
Going by the images, the spied mule in question here in-houses a 1.4L T-Jet turbocharged petrol engine. Currently, Fiat Punto Evo is being offered with either a set of 1.2- and 1.4L naturally-aspirated petrol engines or the 1.3L Multi-jet diesel engine. Fiat India, earlier this year, announced that it would be introducing its performance-oriented Abarth brand in India in 2015 with two products initially: Abarth Punto T-Jet & Abarth Avventura. As per reports, the company was ready to launch the Abarth cars in the country in 2013 but it couldn't happen due to market slowdown and unfavorable exchange rates. But this year, both Abarth & Jeep are expected to make their Indian debut.
Fiat Punto T-Jet has a different turbocharger as compared to the one used in Linea T-Jet; however, but the cars have the same 1.4L engine. But, this engine generates a massive power of 135bhp on the Punto against the 113bhp of Linea sedan. Upon its launch in the country, Fiat Punto T-Jet or Abarth Punto would lock horns with the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Tata Bolt Sport. But there is still quite a time left in its arrival as festive season of Diwali is almost half a year ahead.
