The Kawasaki Ninja 300 is a great Motorcycle whichever way you see it, whether it be the way it looks or the way it performs. It has been the best selling entry-level sportbike since ages (The Kawasaki Ninja 250 included). Beating it in its game has always been the target of other competitors. The mighty capable RC390 has been the only motorcycle that has brought proper competition to the Team green in this segment.
All this is set to change now, Yamaha has just unveiled YZF-R3 for European Market. It gets a 320cc Engine which is a bored out version of the R25 unit. This now produces 42 PS and 29.5 Nm torque making it more powerful than the Ninja 300, the bike it is, designed to compete. The power output will also give the Yamaha a performance edge over the CBR300R and will take it close to the new KTM RC 390 as well. Both the RC 390 and the Yamaha R3 sit right at the limit of the European A2 licence.
Under the exact same bodywork as the R25 lies, a tubular steel frame that allows the Yamaha to hit a relatively light weight of 169kg (the R25′s weight is three kilos lighter) fully fuelled. That is light for a twin. That makes it 5kg lighter than the ABS Ninja 300.
About time Yamaha brings it to our shores, we have waited too much for this already. Yamaha also came out with a promotional video of R3 for US market with the Legendary WSBK and Moto GP rider Colin Edwards featuring in it. You can see the video after the jump.
