MG Motor has started showcasing its global line-up of cars and SUVs across the country. The company will preview its product range in total of 11 places. MG is yet to reveal the India-bound model, which is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2019. Previous media reports claim that the first SUV for India will be called MG Gloster. A new media report claims that the first MG SUV will be unveiled in India in April 2019.
The British carmaker, which is owned by Chinese auto giant Shanghai Automotive, will be based on the Baojun 530. For people not in the known, the Baojun 530 SUV is currently on sale in the Chinese market. However, the India-spec model will be a re-engineered version of the Baojun 530. This model will be bigger than most of its competitors. In fact, it will have bigger dimensions than the Honda CR-V SUV. The SUV will challenge the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and others in its category.
The MG SUV has been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads. Spy images suggest that the SUV gets signature grille with integrated MG badge, LED daytime running lights with integrated blinkers, pronounced lower grille, and wing mirrors with turn lights. The cabin is expected to be premium in nature, featuring a free standing touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, all leather upholstery and electrically adjustable seats and TFT multi-info display.
Baojun 530 SUV measures 4,665mm in length, 1,835mm in width and 1,760mm in height, which is significantly higher than its direct rival Jeep Compass. Engine line-up for the MG SUV comprises of 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor. The diesel engine will be sourced from the FCA, which is capable of producing 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Both the powertrains will meet upcoming BSVI emission norms.
