- Renault aims for higher localization for first EV.
- Renault unveiled the Kwid electric at 2020 Auto Expo.
- Renault will launch Triber AMT in Q2 2020 in India.
Renault India will launch the best-priced electric vehicle in the country, states Venkatraman Mamillapalle, CEO and MD, Renault India in an interview to ET Auto. The Renault Boss told that the company is planning to introduce its upcoming EV at a starting price below Rs 10 Lakhs. The French automaker had also unveiled the Triber AMT at the 2020 Auto Expo which will go on sale in the Q2 this year.
Renault's first electric offering in the Indian market could be the Kwid as Fabrice Cambolive, Chairman AMI-Pacific, Groupe Renault SVP had said earlier, "Kwid, built on CMF-A platform, is a perfect body to receive electrification and that's what we are working on." Though, a couple of other automakers such as Tata Motors and Mahindra have already launched Nexon EV and eKUV100 in the country at a reasonable price but Cambolive had reportedly told ET Auto earlier that it will at least take a couple of years for Renault to launch its first EV in India.
Apparently, Cambolive had emphasized on the fact that if the company wants its first EV in India to do well, then high level of localization is key. And, in order to achieve higher localization, Renault needs to keep a check on the battery costs. Confirming Groupe Renault SVP words, Mamillapalle stated, "If Renault brings a product, it has to be at attractive and affordable pricing with very strong service network and for that, we need time and space because we are going to do large extent of localisation to make an affordable electric car for customers."
