It's not more than a few days since the first unit of the new Hyundai hatchback was spied and we have got another piece of news about the car. A reliable source has shared the details about the production of new engine project which is also known as Hyundai AH2.

Based on the details provided by the source forum, the first petrol engine that would be powering the new Hyundai car (2018 Santro) was developed around six weeks back at the company’s production facility in Tamil Nadu. However, the engine specification is not known yet.

The company is yet to finalize the naming of this new car, but we are expecting it to be the new version of the Hyundai Santro. If it gets the same nameplate, it would be extremely beneficial for the company as the model enjoyed a good piece of reputation in the Indian market.

The new Hyundai hatchback will be hitting the market towards the second half of 2018. Moreover, it is expected to be the first product from the company to be featuring an AMT gearbox, which would help the company bring down the cost of production to a certain extent. Traditionally, fully automatic gearboxes cost more than AMT units.

The discontinued Hyundai Santro Xing (discontinued in 2015) was powered by a 1.1-litre petrol engine which could produce 63 bhp of power and 96 Nm of torque. Hence, the new car is expected to have a bigger engine with better tuning to produce more power than before.

The upcoming Hyundai hatchback will be getting a price tag of around Rs. 4 lakhs. With this figure, it would be competing against the likes of the Tata Tiago and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. However, if we see a bump in the engine power production, it could be more successful than its competitors.
