Earlier, we apprise you that Audi India race talent, Aditya Patel is going to take part in the Audi R8 LMS Cup at the Shanghai International Circuit. Racing under the team Absolute Racing, the Indian GT racing star, has come away from the first round of the Audi R8 LMS Cup, scoring some good points after two top ten finishes in as many races over the weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit.
This year’s edition of the cup features one of the strongest lineups so far in the history of the championship, where the race witnessed the introduction of the New Audi R8 LMS GT3 car in addition to two new teams KCMG and Phoenix racing that has advanced the profile of the championship in its fifth year. Even after setting the fastest time in the second free practice session, Patel was only able to manage the 6th position in qualifying, while the cup debutant Martin Rump qualified on pole.
Though, he managed to get a flying start and moved to the 5th place, but was caught in a battle with Alex Yoong, Allessio Picarrielo and Yuichi Nakayama, falling back to the 8th position. In the closing stages, Patel finished the race a place over Nakayama. In the second race, Patel started at 8th place, and finishing it on the 6th position, where the 1st position was taken by the only female driver in the field, Rahel Frey.
After the race, Aditya Patel said, “It was definitely a tough weekend for me but in the end, I feel like I’ve learned a lot about the new car and am ready to take the positives to Thailand for round two! Huge thanks to Audi India, Audi China, Jktyres and Jubilant motorworks for making this season possible!”
The Audi R8 LMS Cup second round will be held in Buriram, Thailand on July 16th and 17th.
