Mr. Vicky Chandhok, President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) has decided not to stand for re-election for the post next year. FMSCI is the only Indian motosport body which is affiliated to the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
Vicky Chandhok is the father of Karun, who became India’s second ever F1 driver when he made his debut as a team-member with Hispania Racing Team at Bruno Senna in 2010. Except the tenure of 2008-2009, Chandhok has been the president of the FMSCI from 2005 till date.
“This is a difficult decision for me but after being President for seven out of the last nine years, and living and breathing Indian motorsport on a daily basis, it is time to pass the baton on”. He also added ,“The federation has seen many wins over the past few years, including, most notably Formula 1 coming to India as well as the Asian Road Racing Championship for bikes. In the Indian arena, the JK Tyre National Karting Championship continues to flourish and the introduction of the JK Racing India Series, MRF 16000 and MRF Challenge 2013 has helped prepare young drivers to face the challenges of international competition,” said Vicky Chandhok.
After Chandhok, the top contenders for the position are likely FMSCI’s western region director, Mr. Shrikant Karani and current FMSCI vice-president R Bharat Raj.
