Force Motors is readying a new top-spec variant of the Gurkha SUV that will be christened as Gurkha Xtreme. The SUV will be launched in India soon. The upcoming new variant comes with similar look to the present Gurkha, but there are major technical upgrades in order to make it more capable of performing off-road duties. Expect the SUV to launch here sometime later this month.
The Force Gurkha Xtreme comes powered by a Mercedes-Benz sourced OM611 2.2-litre diesel engine that will replace the 85 bhp generating 2.6-litre diesel engine. The new engine is capable if churning out 138 bhp of peak power and 321 Nm of peak torque. Interestingly, this same engine used to power the discontinued Force One SUV.
Apart from a new and more powerful engine, the Force Gurkha Xtreme will come with an all-new transmission as well, a Mercedes-Benz G32 5-speed manual gearbox. This gearbox will ensure generous power even in low range. Speaking about the other upgrades, the Force Gurkha Xtreme will come with a new suspension. There will be a multi-link arrangement at the front in addition to the one at the rear. This new suspension is expected to bring more off-roading capability to the SUV.
The SUV will get approach, departure and ramp breakover angles of 44 degrees, 35 degrees and 29 degrees respectively that are significantly greater than the present Gurkha. Also, it gets 205 mm of ground clearance and 550 mm of wading depth as well.
