Ford is working on the electric variant of its Aspire compact sedan and this zero emission model is reportedly to launch in India by next year. Upon launch, this is going to be the cheapest Ford EV in the world and it is likely to use Mahindra’s cheap electric powertrain technology. Mahindra & Mahindra has already tied up with the American car major to develop technologies and share synergies in the EV segment.
Mahindra has already earned pretty good respect in the Indian EV market with its cheap electric powertrain technology that is used in cars like e2o Plus and e-Verito. Ford is certainly being benefitted from this technology and the two auto majors are developing a new electric SUV as well that would be sold under a different and individual brand name in near future.
Ford Aspire has been an interesting car so far with its range of high level safety features, muscular stance. Despite tough competition in the compact sedan segment, Ford Aspire has been able to make its own space. An electric variant will certainly boost the appeal of this model in coming days. However, pricing and running range will play crucial role for the upcoming electric variant to be successful in Indian market.
Considering the fact that India is thriving towards adopting zero emission pure electric mobility by the end of next decade, Ford Aspire Electric can play important role for the brand’s growth in the country. However, Ford India is tight lipped about the powertrain, specification and further details about this car. With the electric variant of the Aspire compact sedan being readied for launch, we can also hope to see an electric version of the Figo hatchback in near future, as both the cars share same platform. However, there’s no word yet from Ford about an electric variant of Figo hatchback.
