Ford Motor Company has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu state government which would further increase its manufacturing capacity. At present, the plant can produce 2,00,000 vehicles and 3,40,000 engines annually. The new investment is aimed at establishing global engineering and technology centre in addition to increase the production capacity. The centre would be aimed at using the Indian talent for skilled jobs across the fields of product development, data analytics, business, processes, data analytics etc.
Dave Schoch (President, Ford Asia Pacific) said "India is at the center of innovation at Ford and we are delighted to strengthen our presence with a new global engineering and technology centre, this is the next chapter of our India journey. With these latest investments, we are making rapid progress in our vision of driving innovation from India to the world".
He added “Chennai is Ford's first home in India and we are glad to strengthen our commitment to its people through this proposed expansion and job creation. We would like to thank the Tamil Nadu government and the honorable Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for the continued support"
Ford also expanded its manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat which came up with a total investment of US$1 billion. The plant in addition to assembling vehicles also manufactures engines. The Figo Aspire sedan is being rolled out from this plant and about-to-be-launched Figo hatchback will also be manufactured here.
