Ford EcoSport 1.5-litre petrol and diesel to get upgraded.
1.0-litre turbo petrol to be axed from the range.
1.0-litre to be replaced by a 1.2-litre engine.
The Ford EcoSport engine range consists of three engines: a 1.5-litre turbodiesel that generates 100bhp, a 1.5-litre petrol that generates 123bhp, and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol that churns out 125bhp. The diesel is a four-cylinder motor, while both kinds of petrol employ three. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost will not be on sale beyond April as the investment is not justified by its sales – but Ford will have a replacement for it. A 1.2-litre turbo petrol sourced from Mahindra will power the EcoSport.
The EcoSport is getting long in the tooth and newer rivals are offering a much more comprehensive feature list compared to it, so expect it to get a major update in this department when the BS Vl engine upgrades are announced. It competes in the sub-4m SUV segment along with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 (with which it will share the 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor), and the Hyundai Venue.
