The US carmaker Ford has struck the right chord with its Ford Ecosport in India. It has opened a relatively new segment for the customers, which is the compact SUV segment. However, the car didn’t do well in the US market. Probably, that’s why Ford has unveiled a facelifted Ecosport recently and its India-made version will be exported to the U.S, where sales are slated to commence by 2018.
Ecosport will be the first Indian made vehicle to be imported in US. Prior to this declaration, the organization was under attack from the newly elected President of USA Donald Trump for moving the assembly line of all its small cars to Mexico. Although this decision has not affected the job market in the USA, but Trump has promised to impose 35 percent tax on vehicles that are manufactured in USA, which will eventually force the company to bring jobs back to its US plants.
According to Michael O’Brien, the marketing manager of SUVs at Ford, the company builds the compact SUVs in six locations across the planet, and Ford sells it in 100 markets. So, just like it makes the Explorer in the US and exports it from there to other global markets, it is going to export EcoSport from Asia Pacific, and is sell it in the US.
Ford has unveiled the latest iteration of the compact SUV last week itself and it is stated to launch in the US by 2018. The Ecosport has been a very important product for the American company in India. It has opened a new segment for the customers. However, the sales of the SUV has dropped drastically since the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. An update of the Ecosport was long overdue, and one can easily expect ford to launch the newer version of its popular compact SUV the Ecosport in India even before USA.
