Geneva Motorshow is running at full throttle with the new launches and unveiling every second. But none could match the sheer significance of the revealing of the Ford Ecosport compact SUV and the reasons are known best to everyone. The Ecosport created a lot of stir in the Indian and global market at the time of launch and received a humongous response.
Now Ford has unveiled a subtle but necessary updated version of the Europe-spec compact SUV at the ongoing 85th Geneva Motorshow. And the biggest change came in the form of elimination of the rear gate mounted spare wheel, which was a point of contention for many buyers. Now the buyers can buy the Ecosport with or without a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
To remove the spare wheel without altering the looks of the car, the model will get a redesigned bumper with faux diffuser. The rear door has been revised to and the license place will sit in the centre now. The Ford showcased at the Geneva was the 'S' variant painted in a unique deep blue paint shade, blackened roof and 17-inch alloys. While on the inside, the instrument cluster now gets chrome surrounds with chrome tipped window switches.
While the Ecosport will continue getting the same set of engines as the current generation car, there are changes made to the mechanics of the compact SUV. It is said to have an updated chassis with a revised spring and dampers. The height of the car is also reduced by 10mm for better stability. The SUC also gets an updated ESP and power steering system.
The tailgate spare wheel, as mentioned above, didn't go well with the European customers, while the Indian customers like the SUVish kind of look it reflects. It will be interesting to see if Ford will bring this model anytime soon in India!
