Ford India will pull the wraps off its Figo-based cross-hatch ahead of the Auto Expo 2018, at the end of this month. The new cross-hatch will be previewed on January 31, 2018. Caught testing multiple times, the cross-hatch will c be named, the Freestyle. Akin to other models in the segment, the crossover version of Figo is expected to feature SUV-ish styling with elements including body cladding, high ground clearance, roof-rails, chunky tyres and large wheels. The Figo based derivative will sport a new bonnet, new set of headlamps and a grille up front, which will later be seen on the updated Figo and Aspire.
In terms of interiors, it will look largely same as Figo, though Ford will make small, yet significant changes to the cabin. The entry-level variants in the Ford Figo based crossover line-up will pack in the same 6.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system offered on the lower-spec Ford EcoSport variants. On the other hand, the high-spec variants are expected to feature the larger, 8.0-inch infotainment system with Ford’s Sync 3. Additional goodies on the fully loaded top-of-the-line variants will include six airbags, anti-lock-braking system, and ESP. The cross-hatch is expected to receive additional bits such as a new steering and suspension set-up over its donor hatchback.
Ford’s much talked about 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine from its Dragon engine family will make its debut in India with the Figo-based cross hatchback. In terms of power, the petrol engine will make 95bhp against 115Nm torque. The older IB5 transmission units will be replaced by the new five-speed manual unit from Getrag.
