Ford, the American automaker is all set to enter the crossover segment by launching the Ford Figo Cross in the Indian market. It is the crossover version of the company’s popular hatchback, Ford Figo and is expected to be launched sometime in 2018.
The Ford Figo Cross has been in the works for quite some time and this time it has been spied completely undisguised to reveal a lot about itself. The leaked images clearly suggest that the model is ready for launch and is all set to make its first official public figure at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi.
The first crossover model from the company is based on the designing principles of the latest generation Ford Figo with some tweaks in styling here and there. The new Ford Figo Cross flaunts the new hexagonal grille, additional body cladding on the bumper and sporty sweptback headlamps. The car does miss out on the projector headlamps with LED DRL, which are common nowadays. The copper brown shade of the spied model reminds you of the Fiat Avventura.
Inside the car, there are noticeable changes which include an updated dashboard, a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It gets the company’s SYNC 3 connectivity system as well.
Apart from the changes in the design, the new Ford Figo Cross is expected to receive changes in the engine mechanism too. It will feature the all-new 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine that claims to churn out a maximum power output of 90 bhp, which is said to be the most powerful engine in the segment. The crossover is also expected to feature the same 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine that also drives the Ford Figo to develop a maximum power output of 100 bhp against a peak torque of 215 Nm. Both engines will be paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Ford Figo Cross is expected to be priced between Rs. 5.3 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs. 8.6 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will lock horns against the likes of Hyundai i20 Active, Toyota Etios Cross and Fiat Urban Cross.
