Ford India is all set to launch the Figo facelift with a crossover variant in the country. It is being learnt that the new cross-styling model would be christened as 'Ford Figo Active' or 'Ford Figo Freestyle', while it would debut a new 1.2L 3-cylinder Dragon petrol engine. Being based on the facelifted model, the cross variant would come with SUV-ish styling elements, while quite a few mechanical updates would also be made. The interior cabin is expected to be identical to the standard hatch variants with a host of premium features.
Speaking of the exterior styling, the cross variant of the Figo is believed to feature a raised suspension, extra body cladding, roof rails and larger wheels in order to live upto its reputation of a crossover. Inside the cabin, there would be a SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As for the 1.2L 3-cylinder Dragon petrol engine, it would develop best-in-segment power output and torque performance of 95bhp and 115Nm, respectively. Unline the 1.5L Dragon engine with which it shares the block, it won't boast of a balancer shaft to offset vibrations. This engine is also expected to make its way in the Figo facelift and Aspire facelift, both of which are expected to be launched in 2018.
In case of Figo's cross variant, the American automaker would link the 1.2L Dragon petrol engine to the Getrag-sourced MX65 5-speed manual transmission which replaces the IB5 gearbox. The MX65 transmission is lighter, more accurate and effortless. It is also being speculated that an AMT derivative of MX65 unit might be launched at a later stage. Ford Figo cross is expected to be launched in the initial months of next year, while it would compete with the likes of Maruti Celerio X and Toyota Etios Cross. The cross variant would be the fully-loaded top-of-the-line variant in Figo's line-up. Meanwhile, in other news, Ford is also working on an all-new hatchback to rival the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20.
