Ford India has finally unveiled the production-ready version of its Figo based compact sedan at the inauguration of its new production facility in Sanand, Gujrat. The Figo based compact sedan would be called 'Figo Aspire' and its production has started at this manufacturing facility. Mark Fields, President & CEO, Ford Motor Company & Mrs. Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister, Gujrat were present at this grand occasion.
Next-generation Ford Figo hatchback as well as compact sedan based on it, i.e. Figo Aspire have been spied testing several times on Indian roads, albeit with partial camouflage. Both these cars have already been launched in Brazil and received a thunderous response from the buyers. Ford's Sanand plant has a production capacity of 2,40,000 units and 2,70,000 engines per year for both domestic and export markets. Ford India also revealed the engine options with which Figo Aspire would arrive in the Indian market. Ford Figo Aspire would be offered with a new 1.2L petrol engine and a 1.5L DV5 turbo-diesel motor in India. In addition, the company would also present the Figo Aspire sedan with a 1.5L petrol engine, which would be linked to a 6-speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox.
Inside the cabin, the Ford Figo Aspire might boast company’s SYNC system and a device dock to mount and charge mobile phones, MP3 players and GPS systems, that will integrate with the in-car entertainment system, another feature that was seen on the Figo sedan concept at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Ford India has confirmed that it would launch the Figo Aspire in June 2015, which would be later joined by the Figo hatchback around September.
