Ford Figo based sedan aka Ford KA+ has been spied as a test mule with barely camouflaged in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Being unveiled as a concept at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, it looks almost identical to the pre-production car of Auto Expo, even in current production form. The name of the car remains to be a mystery yet, but it has been learned that it would carry the 'Figo' nameplate, albeit with a prefix or suffix in order to distinguish it from the existing hatchback.
It would be manufactured at company's Sanand, Gujrat production facility, which would be fully operational from April 2015. The Figo sedan would be the first car to be produced at this new factory. And, some reports from car’s Gujarat trade-certificate plates even suggest that the trial production has commenced at the Sanand facility. However, regular production would start by the end of March as Ford global CEO Mark Fields is expected to visit India and inaugurate this plant. Ford India is relying heavily on the Figo sedan to challenge the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and the recently launched Tata Zest. It would replace the insipid Ford Classic sedan in the Indian market.
The Ford Figo sedan would be powered by a 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine, which would be pretty powerful and performance oriented. It is being speculated that Ford India would launch this sub 4-m sedan in and around July. Also, the company would introduce the new version of Figo hatchback, which would replace the current-generation hatchback.
By the end of 2015, it would also introduce the new Endeavour SUV, which is one of its most prominent vehicles in the country. The Figo sedan is expected to be priced in a domain of Rs 4.5 - 7 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
