Ford India has launched the Freestyle crossover at an introductory price of Rs. 5.09 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. Being positioned between Figo and EcoSport, it is available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims in four grades: Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. Ford Freestyle is produced at the company's Sanand factory in Gujarat for not only Indian buyers but also for global buyers, including Europe & Africa while it would lock horns with Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai i20 Active, Honda WR-V and Fiat Urban Cross.

"The all-new Ford Freestyle is a cool-new car for the young, new age, emerging Indian customers who aspire to own an SUV-like vehicle," said Anurag Mehrotra, president and managing director, Ford India. "The compact utility vehicle is yet another segment created by Ford and will complement our existing portfolio of capable SUVs like Ford EcoSport and Ford Endeavour." The Freestyle flaunts a three-dimensional mesh front grille, while the front bumper comes with sculpted section. The crossover has a ground clearance of 190mm, while riding on 15-inch wheels with increased width. There are skid plates at the front and rear as standard fitment. Ford Freestyle has a best-in-segment rear legroom of 871mm and headroom of 959mm with a boot capacity of 257 litres.

As for features, Ford Freestyle gets a reverse parking camera, keyless entry, push start/stop butoon, automatic climate control etc. among others. It also features the 6.5-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system with voice commands, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The crossover is offered in six colors, including a new White Gold, Canyon Ridge, Moondust Silver, Oxford White, Smoke Grey and Absolute Black. Speaking of the safety features, Ford Freestyle debuts first-in-class Active Rollover Prevention (ARP), besides several other exquisite features such as Electronic Stability Control, TCS, ABS with EBD and yet another segment first Hill Launch Assist. Dual airbags are available as standard across the variant line-up, while the top-end Titanium+ trim boasts of 6-airbags.

Mechanically, Ford Freestyle is available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants debut Ford's naturally aspirated all-new 1.2L 3-cylinder TiVCT engine which develops top power of 95bhp and peak torque of 120Nm. The diesel variants come with the tried and trusted 1.5L TDCi engine which belts out 99bhp and 215Nm. Both the engines are linked to an all-new 5-speed manual transmission. The new gearbox is almost 15 percent lighter and helps in improving the mileage while reducing NVH. Moreover, it requires 40 percent lesser gear oil than its predecessor. Ford Freestyle is claimed to have lowest running cost of 41 paise per kilometer for petrol and 51 paise per kilometer for diesel.
