Ford’s upcoming compact utility vehicle (as Ford calls it),Freestylehas been spotted yet again at a dealership yard ahead of its launch in April. The upcoming model made its global debut in India earlier this year in January. Interestingly, this will be Ford’s second product in the sub-4m crossover/SUV segment. Images of two units of Ford Freestyle have surfaced on the inter-web, giving an inkling of the colour options that will be offered on the vehicle. The darker colour in the image is Freestyle’s communication colour. While the model is set for its official India launch in April, Ford will start with the media activities right ahead of the launch in the first week of April.
In Ford India’s line-up, Freestyle will be slotted below EcoSport and compete with similar models in the segment including Volkswagen Cross Polo, Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Urban Cross and Toyota Etios Cross. The Ford Freestyle gets blacked-out high contrast headlamps along with fog lamp bezel and a unique grille with a dynamic three-dimensional mesh. Besides, the front bumper comes with an integrated skid plate and sculpted fascia sections.
On the inside, it will get Ford’s SYNC 3 system with 6.5-inch centrally mounted touchscreen and smartphone connectivity features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of safety, expect Freestyle to get six airbags, Traction Control System (TCS), Anti-Lock-Braking system (ABS) and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and a uniquely tuned Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS).
Mechanical set-up on the new Ford Freestyle will include a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine good for a maximum power of 95bhp against 120Nm torque. Diesel variants in the line-up will draw power from the 1.5-litre TDCi unit with top power of 98bhp and 215Nm torque. This is the same unit which currently powers Figo hatchback. Both engines will be offered with a conventional five-speed manual unit.
