Good news for collectors, Ford has announced production of the majestic carbon fibre GT supercar for additional 2 years. Earlier Ford had decided to create just 500 examples over a period of two years for a carefully selected list of applicants. Ford had to extend production owing to requests sent in by potential clients asking about their application status for buying a new GT. Ford also states that among these vast number of requests, 500 of them come just from the UK. The company cannot promise a GT to every interested customer, but the increase in production units will satisfy more customers.
Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance states “We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand.” The 3rd year of production is for the waiting list of customers and deferred clients, followed by the final year that will cater to applicants who missed their initial application. And yes, Ford will open application process for final year in the beginning of 2018. Ford GT sports a 3.5 litre V6 EcoBoost engine that will push out a projected 592bhp of rumbling power. Also carbon fibre is important because it is both design and performance element. Ford also claims one of the best power to weight ratios in the world for the all-new GT. “Ford GT has racing in its blood,” says Raj Nair, Ford exec VP, product development, and chief technical officer.
