Ford India has inaugurated its sixth Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) Centre in Kelambakkam, near Chennai in partnership with P.S.B Industrial Training Institute. The company is on track to establish 14 centers by 2016 to benefit students across the country. For those asking, the American automaker has already launched five ASSET centers in India; one each in Kochi, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and Mohali.
“Given the retail distribution of Ford Genuine parts in Tamil Nadu, the technical know-how of Ford technologies will certainly create better growth and employment prospects for the students” said David Johnson, Director, Service Engineering Operations, Ford Asia pacific Customer Service Operations. “We envision Ford ASSET program to become the primary source of trained technician in the time to come who will ensure unparalleled after-sales experience for Ford car owners said N Prabhu, vice-president, Customer Service Operations, Ford India.
The newest Ford ASSET center in Kelambakkam, near Chennai will certify students for their understanding of Ford technology, thereby making them proficient in working across Ford dealership service network across the country. To ensure sustenance of the program, Ford’s technical training collaboration across these centers includes exclusive Train-The-Trainer (TTT) sessions for institute lecturers as well. Institute instructors will be trained and nurtured through Ford’s Technical Training Centre located in Chennai Manufacturing plant.

The ASSET training facility is a tri-party initiative involving Ford, the dealers, and the ITI. Ford provide world-class technical know-how and the reference aids along with trained instructors to enhance academic curriculum learning as part of the program. Ford dealerships work with local partners to set up the ASSET technical training corner and provide training to the ITI students by the master technician available as in-house trainer at the dealership. The dealerships also give on-the-job training opportunity to the students with Ford vehicles at the dealer workshops.
