Ford India has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority on December 15, 2017. This memorandum has been signed to assess the possibilities of a digital mobility solution for the commuters in the city.
Though the public transport sector of Hyderabad has different modes of transport like light rail, buses and metros, about 800 new vehicles are put on the roads each day. Hence, Ford India’s vision to provide innovative solutions to the mobility sector is complemented by the city’s Smart and Safe City projects.
After the MoU signing ceremony, Minister KT Rama Rao has said that “Hyderabad has a significant advantage due to its excellent infrastructure and connectivity. This MoU with Ford Motor Company would further enhance it and make commute within the city more convenient for all. We look forward to working with Ford on this Mobility platform and future opportunities.”
Further, the Director of Ford Smart Mobility has said that the company is working with different cities in order to address the different challenges of transportation. Partnering with the local authority would mean that new ways could be found which would assist in getting the commuters’ journey to be seamless.
This collaboration will see Ford India engage with the stakeholders and explore solutions in a variety of areas like mobile-based ticketing, smart cards and digital cashless payments. The development of such technology will help the commuters save more time while switching between different modes of transport.
This collaboration will also work towards identifying how the daily commuters go about using different modes of transport in Hyderabad, which would be an effort to understand the area of development required.
Ford India has been extremely committed to improving the country’s transportation. Earlier this year, the company had also started working with major cities like Indore and Mumbai to find new and innovative mobility solutions.
