Ford India has finally launched the iconic Mustang sports car at a sticker price of Rs. 65 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. It is for the first time that the American automaker has launched the Mustang in India since it first went on sale in 1964. Currently, the company has started accepting orders for the sports car in Delhi and Mumbai, while other cities would be included from next year. It is being sold as CBU, resulting in quite high pricing.
Speaking about the exterior appearance, Ford Mustang comes with bulging bonnet, wide shoulders, raked roofline and brawny wheel arches. The sports car flaunts LED projector headlamps and vertical 'three-bar' LED taillamp cluster, which pays tribute to the first-generation Mustang of 1964. The interior cabin is based on an airplane with toggle switches on the centre console. The company's halo product also gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and drive mode selector with four driving modes: Normal, Sport+, Track and Wet. In order to improve traction on wet and slippery surfaces, the Mustang has limited slip differential. Just so you know, over 9 million units of Ford Mustang have been sold globally till date.
Under the hood, the India-spec Mustang has a naturally-aspirated 5.0L V8 engine petrol engine which develops a maximum power of 401bhp and peak torque of 515Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and has the ability to clock a top speed of 250kmph. The Mustang was also one of the showstoppers at the 2016 Auto Expo at Ford's pavilion. The company has developed the sports car in right-hand-drive guise for the first time as Mustang has always been a left-hand-drive. Also, it wouldn't require special high-octane fuel as other sports cars and can run on regular 91 octane fuel. Ford Mustang would be locking horns with Audi R8 in the Indian market.
