Chennai-based car manufacturer, Ford has become country’s largest car exporter in the month of August 2016, driving past Hyundai Motor India on the export front. Ford has shipped a total of 17,860 units as compared to Hyundai that has exported 16,506 units in the last month. Going by the industry sales data, it has been revealed that Maruti Suzuki India stood third in the ranking by shipping 12,131 units, further followed by Nissan and Volkswagen and GM India, exporting 9,232, 7,538 and 7,044 units, respectively.
For the last two years, Ford EcoSport has been making a major contribution to drive export numbers for the company, but now new-gen Figo hatchback and Aspire compact sedan has also started making some add on to the overall figures. The Made in India new Figo hatch is being shipped to the European market, named as Ka+. Apart from Europe, both the products are also exported to other markets such as Africa, Middle-East and the ASEAN countries.
While in this case, the EcoSport compact SUV has made wonders, as the car has become the most exported product by the brand from India in the fiscal 2016-2017. So far, 35,517 units of EcoSport shipped, crossing the position of the previous leader, the Nissan Micra with 31,605 unit exports. But, the company is planning to shift the product of the EcoSport to Europe’s facilities, while the Figo and Aspire will be exported from the Indian plants only.
Recently Ford has also that its facility has achieved a milestone of 1 lakh production that includes around 50 percent contribution from export products. Recently, Ford has also fueled up its domestic sales.
