Images of the new iV-4 have been teased for quite some time, Suzuki has finally lifted the covers off the compact SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show that is currently in progress. Looking at it for a few seconds will remind many of the XA-Alpha concept car that was unveiled at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. That’s not entirely farfetched because both the cars look almost the same, the design, the structure and the ‘compactness’ also say the same. However, Suzuki has not yet confirmed the launch date of the new iV-4 in India. When it does actually come into the Indian car market, the car’s got some serious competition to go through.
It's only a matter of time before the car enters the Indian market, as this is the country that is currently obsessed with compact SUVs. Just like the XA-Alpha, the iV-4 also has a meaning hidden in its name. According to the company ‘I’ stands for individuality, ‘V’ stands for vehicle and the number ‘4’ stands for four-wheel drive. So a 4 wheel drive means this car is mature enough to take on the Nissan Juke and others on the same segment. Just like the concept XA-Alpha this new car has sleek lines all over the body, 5 slotted front grille, clamshell hood and fog lamps with sensors on the roof.
The car is 4,215 mm long, 1850 mm wide, 1665 mm tall. It also has a very long wheelbase of 2500 mm. The length of the wheelbase can be used to prove that the car will definitely be a spacious 5 seater. But for India the car may be sliced to get it into the sub 4 meter category, which is also another recent trend to save a few Rupees. As for the placement, the iV-4 is expected to hold a position between the Jimny and the Grand Vitara in the global market. The production version of the car is expected to hit the European markets within 2015, so that means development will start in the early days of 2014.
