The full moon has a great effect on human beings, from poets who find their lovers to the people who turn into werewolves on full moon nights, the moon in all its shining glory has always been an inspirations to us humans (in case of werewolves, the decision to what to call them, animal or human, lay in your hands). Coming back to the story, Akrapovic, the Slovenian exhaust manufacturer revealed a new concept motorcycle at Germany’s Bad Salzuflen Custom bike Show called the Full Moon.
Designed with help from builder Dreamachine Motorcycles, the Full Moon is characterized by its massive 30-inch front wheel, a large open space surrounding the engine and a bulbous rear. The large front wheel, which gives the bike its “Full Moon” name, is made of aluminium and carbon and is equipped with a composite perimeter brake disc that itself is larger than most motorcycle wheels. The wheel and the arc of the frame make the V-Twin engine look tiny, so it’s a bit surprising to know the S&S Knucklehead displaces 1524cc. The frame and rear bodywork is made of sheet metal. The metal body incorporates two custom-made Akrapovic exhausts, so one way you can look at it is to consider the entire motorcycle to be one large exhaust.
Speaking of the Full Moon, Akrapovic says “this concept machine was developed to avoid being categorized, and as such is a bike that belongs nowhere and everywhere, making it a unique motorcycle. The name comes from the huge aluminum and carbon thirty-inch front wheel, which is completely visible, giving the impression of a full moon and making a huge statement of what this bike is about.
“Over eight hundred hours went into creating this superbly finished machine, which features an S&S Knucklehead 1,524 cc engine and two modified custom-made Akrapovi? exhausts. The frame and bodywork are made entirely of sheet metal and form an extension to the exhausts. The bodywork is thus part of the Akrapovi? exhaust system—an integral part, in fact—and the bike itself is essentially an exhaust.”
Immediately noticeable – and not found on other customs – is the 30-inch composite front wheel, along with the composite front brake disc. Akrapovic says the steering is completely automated, which allows a minimalist steering rod without any visible cables that would otherwise be required for the bike to function. And because the Full Moon arrives with hydraulic suspension, it can be parked upright.
“This is an extremely technically advanced motorcycle, full of unique elements that were carefully chosen to make the bike totally exclusive, and the shape hides completely new solutions used on a custom bike for the first time. The Full Moon is like no other bike out there now, and Akrapovi? is very proud of it,” to company says.
Besides the Bad Salzuflen, the Full Moon will be showcased at many other events and shows across the globe
