Mr. Rajeev Mishra, CEO, UM Lohia Two Wheelers Pvt. Ltd said, “UM Motorcycles welcomes the Goods and Services Tax (GST) initiative by the Government of India. We believe that it will benefit the economy overall and thus our customers too. We have decided to preemptively extend benefits before the GST is implemented. We are committed to delivering customer satisfaction and giving authentic, pure motorcycling experience to our community and consumers.” For those asking, under the GST bill, the motorcycles with engine capacity below 350cc would attract a tax rate of 28 percent, while currently, they are taxed at 30 percent. Therefore, it is the reason that major companies have started extending the benefits even before the official implementation.
As per the GST bill, the motorcycles with engine capacity above 350cc would be under tax slab of 28 percent. However, they would also attract an additional cess of 3 percent, taking the total tax to 31 percent, which makes it more than the current 30 percent tax. Hence, the bikes with engine capacity above 350cc are expected to be a bit dearer than the current price. Coming back to the Renegade Sports S and Renegade Commando, both these motorcycles are manufactured at UM-Lohia’s manufacturing facility in Uttarakhand. Currently, the Renegade Sports S is priced at Rs 178,518 while Renegade Commando comes with a price tag of Rs 184,397 (both ex-showroom, Pune). The price cut will differ from State to State and customers can head to the nearest dealership to avail the price cut.
