Sustainability is the new mantra in the world today, adopted by both fringe groups as well as multi national corporations. One goal of sustainable growth is judicious use of depleting fossil fuel resources. When this goal is combined with breaking of an established record of“Guinness World for efficient use of fuel, the participants and the sponsoring company get a big hype and free advertisement. ‘Volkswagen US’ are going to attempt and break the Guinness World record for the efficient use of fuel by a car with diesel engine, in the second week of June in America.
A couple of experienced drivers will drive ‘2013 V Passat TDI’ with diesel engine across fortyeight states in the United States of America. They are already flagged off from the Volkswagen’s ‘headquarters’ at ‘Hemdon Va’ on June 7 and planned to cover eight thousand ‘miles’ in their quest to break the existing record. Their journey is going to take them first in the southern direction and then they would loop back to north in a circle to end at the headquarters. It is expected that the journey would take fourteen days.
The car they are driving has a special engine which is ‘turbocharged’ and runs on a system where fuel is directly injected. The diesel is used efficiently and the vehicle is likely to cover nearly forty three Miles on one ‘gallon’ of diesel. The vehicle has ‘6 speed manul transmission’ and only needs to be topped up with fuel after completing seven hundred and ninetyfive ‘miles’. Management of the company feels that they have good chance of breaking the established record because this model has an infallible record of fuel efficiency and is fitted with the latest technology.
Volkswagen at corporate level believe in sustainablity as a policy and keep on experimenting and improving engine performance by using both hybrid and normal fuels. Their aim is to become the first car manufacturer who is truly ecology friendly.
